Medical Billing & Coding

 

Some of the fastest-growing healthcare positions are in the area of medical billing and coding.  Syracuse EOC’s Medical Billing & Coding program is an intermediate level course in anatomy, terminology, CPT/ICD-10 (Current Procedural Terminology/International Classification of Diseases) coding, HCPCS (Health Care Common Procedural Coding System) and insurance processing utilizing industry-standard billing software.  Upon successful completion, students receive a Certificate of Completion and are well prepared for employment in positions such as Billing Specialist, Medical Records, Health Information Technician and Insurance Clerk.

 

Academic Eligibility Requirements:

Minimum 8.0 reading score on TABE placement exam

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Keyboarding assessment: ability to key a minimum 20wpm with 5 or less errors on a timed test

Two professional references

Attend orientation

 

Program Completion Requirements:

Completion of Medical Billing & Coding course with a grade of “C” or higher

Must complete either the Basic Keyboarding or Championship Speedbuilding course with a grade of B or higher

Approved, on-file resume and cover letter

 

Electives:

-        Billing certification exam preparation class, computer application courses
