Medical Secretary
The Medical Secretary Program at Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center prepares students for entry-level secretarial positions in the fast-growing healthcare industry. Upon successful completion of the program, students have the knowledge and skills necessary to work in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, government agencies and insurance companies.
Students receive training in medical office procedures, medical terminology and patient billing, collection and reimbursement using an industry-standard computer software program. Students also learn the technological aspects of preparing and maintaining medical documents, forms and records. Medical ethics and HIPAA requirements are also included.
Emphasis is also placed on developing the knowledge and skills needed to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook in an office setting.
Academic Eligibility Requirements:
Minimum 8.0 reading score on TABE placement exam
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Ability to keyboard a minimum of 20cwm on a timed test
Demonstrated basic computer and Microsoft Word skills
